Expect Nothing

A lawsuit has been filed against Facebook. Apparently some businesses feel that Facebook is invading their privacy. Gasp ! Facebook installs cookies on your computer and monitors where and what you look at. They admit to knowing what browser you are using, your operating system and what websites you visit. I'm amused that these business people would be surprised by that. Would like to meet them, got some waterfront property for them.
The law speaks to an " expectation of privacy." That is why they can install security cameras on main street but not in a dressing room at Walmart. Facebook is advertised as a social network. Should I reasonably assume an expectation of privacy ? I don't think so. This social network is a free service or entertainment media,if you prefer, so I really have no basis for complaint. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth ! Don't like it, leave.
The ones filing the suit seem to be concerned that someone would find out what they are looking at. Well, Grandma always told me this, if you are ashamed of what you are reading or looking at, you probably shouldn't be looking at it in the first place. Live your life with nothing to hide. Good old common sense still works today.
The bottom line is simple, put your business on Facebook and your business is now public. Expect nothing in the way of privacy.
