Just give it time

With he beginning of a new year I was thinking about the passage of time. Man has always sought to mark and measure the passage of time. To define a way to measure something that has no beginning or end. Why this compulsion ? In the beginning cave man left scratch marks on the stone. For what purpose ? To just leave a record of his passing ? As a means to measure his mortality ? Are we trying to measure our time on earth or the time until we leave ? These are fundamental questions in the mystery of life.
Since the earliest of times man has observed the solstices. Stonehenge and other sites are evidence of this. Man looking toward the heavens. Man searching for the answers there. In a broader sense are we still not engaged in that very practice ? Are we not searching the sky for our ancestors ? In our religious beliefs do we not look to the heavens ? Our present day calender, The Gregorian calender, was established by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. Its' basic unit of measure is a day. The summer solstice was very important to the Christian Church and the date kept moving. The calender we now use solved that problem, sorta.
Time. Still a subject we do not understand. Einstein formulated a theory about time. We are still engaged in trying to prove or disprove that theory. There are those that seek to travel through time. The speed of light being a measure of time. Recently scientist claim to have created some neutrons that travel slightly faster than the speed of light, an impossibility according to Einstein. If that is the case, our whole idea of time is wrong.
Foolish mortals.
In its' simplest form time is just a reference point. Something to compare with or against. The problem lies in the fact we have no real set point. Our Bibles tell us that God is the beginning and the End. Therefore, God is time. We look to the heavens for our Gods. All the good Gods reside in the heavens. The bad ones inhabit the earth or beneath it. Follow the good Gods and you will ascend into the heavens and conversely following the bad leaves you on this earth, or beneath it. Is that the symbolism of Jesus rising from the tomb ?
Time and Religion are intertwined. We can not understand the mystery of time anymore than we can understand the mind of God. We are dependent upon both. There is irrefutable proof of the passage of time. One need only watch the heavens to see that. There are those that want irrefutable proof of the existence of God. To those people I can only say, " just give it time." In time the answer will be revealed to you. Continue to mark your calender and the passage of time.
All of us reflect upon the past. We all become nostalgic with the passing of time. We marvel at the advances of man in knowledge and technology. Each succeeding generation sure they have the answers. This has always been so. Man will continue to mark the passage of time. Our time here is a privilege. A privilege granted to us by a higher power. Strive to us it wisely, that's my advice.
