What goes around

Wrote a blog about black Friday and the holiday season in general. As I was writing my thoughts wandered off track a little,as they are prone to do,and I thought how things repeat themselves. We are all familar with this theory. What is touted as a new innovation is just an reinvention of an old concept.
I mentioned shopping in general. How we did most of our shopping with the Sears Christmas Wish book and J.C.Penny. Now,I hear a lot of shopping is done online. This is where I started to wander a bit. They are very similar practices. We would look through those catalouges at all the fantastic items available. Carefully reading the descriptions. It was an exciting pastime. The pages would be marked, items circled and notes written in the margins. Subtle hints to other potential shoppers as to what our selection would be. Sounds like browsing to me. Once all the selections were made you had to fill out the order form. This was a bit tedious.
Of course you had to have an account already established with the company. A revolving charge was the most common. You did however have years to pay for your gifts. Now you need a credit card, same thing.
If the items were from Sears or Pennys they could be picked up at the local store in most cases. They could be shipped directly to your door but that wasn't as common a practice. The local store would call you when your items came in. Now they are sent straight to your address.
Today the selection is much larger and the ordering process streamlined but the concept is the same. Shop at home ! Stores have grown in size over the years to the point of being almost too large to shop. I see a return to the older ways coming as the cost of maintaining these expansive stores rise. Goes back to the old adage,What goes around.
