We should remember in sorrow and grief that tears nourish the soul. Just as the rain rejuvenates the earth and brings new life, so too tears. We may not like the tears but they are necessary. We must remember also, that too many, for too long, are detrimental. It is essential for growth that tears fall but just as essential is the sunshine. It is in that sunshine that truth and beauty are revealed to us. Whether it is the beauty of a blooming rose or the truth of mortality. Both are an awakening. New life.
For many years I was told, and believed, that men don't cry. Crying was a sign of weakness and uncertainty. Crying is for women and the weak ! That lesson has been ingrained in my conscience. It is a part of me. Even though it has been revealed to not be the truth , the lesson remains. Old habits die hard. So too, does the image you have of yourself. Allowing yourself to modify your core values and beliefs is not an easy transition. Growing pains continue throughout our entire lives, if we allow growth. And that is key, is it not ? The allowance of growth. We must allow ourselves the pain, to experience the growth. Conversely we must not allow that same pain to inhibit our growth.
When the tears and lamentations cease it is time to listen. It is in silence that we learn. It is in silence that we grow. It is only through self examination that the truth is revealed to us. We must learn for ourselves. Words of consolation may ease our pain. The path may be revealed in this manner but you must take that path. And it is a path you must walk alone.
These are my thoughts. The older we become, the longer we have lived. Longevity should provide a measure of wisdom. As the years pass our losses become greater and more frequent. The loss of loved ones, friends and family. Their absence creates uncertainty. Their departure fills our minds with questions. The only answers to those questions however require faith. Faith in yourself and faith in your God. And that faith resides in your soul. The soul requires nourishment and so tears are provided and they come easily. It is the sunshine that we seek. That is the nature of man. We were born in the garden after all. We are subject to nature. We must remember that the rain is followed by sunshine. There is a light and that light is our goal. Do not become lost in the darkness, seek the light. It is not wrong to do so, no matter how deep the grief. Allow yourself to grow and accept the truth as revealed to you.
