Woke up this morning to hear of a tsunami hitting Japan. The devastation is incredible. An undersea earthquake was the cause. All natural disasters are terrible things but earthquakes and tsunamiis' have to be among the worst. There is no warning before either. Hurricanes you can watch develop. Tornadoes form quickly but the weather conditions have to be right and although they crop up they are not totally unexpected.
We live on a fragile planet subject to forces we can not control.
This tsunami may have wide ranging effects. Thousands of miles away people can only wait and hope for the best. Low lying areas close to the coast are especially vulnerable. About all one can do is gather up whatever valuables you can and head for high ground. What a terrible feeling that must be. The expectation of disaster must truly be a most difficult thing.
Watching this on the news brings to mind just how lucky I have been. I have never had to directly experience anything close to this. I've been through a few hurricanes but without any significant loss of property. To have to suffer such loss of life and property is truly tragic. The streaming video of this event as it happened is disturbing to watch. Surreal. I pray that others are not effected by this event and there is no more loss. We are helpless against the forces of nature. A humbling event to be sure.
