I find myself skeptical of crusaders, campaigners and activists. I question their true motivations. I have never been one much for jumping on the bandwagon. The big uprising about gun rights and illegal immigration momentarily leading the pack. The popular opinion on guns is, ban the assault weapons and large magazines. Yeah, well first of all there is no such thing as an " assault weapon " per se. It is fabricated term. Every so called assault weapon sold in the United States, legally,is a semi-automatic rifle. They will not fire any faster than any other semi-automatic weapon. And it takes a practiced person about a second to change a clip. So those proposals don't hold water with me. As far as illegal immigration goes, what part of illegal don't you understand ? Do we need changes ? Probably.
The original crusaders were paid mercenaries. Campaigners, at least a portion of them, are paid. And then you just have those that like to jump on the bandwagon. What their motivations may be is open to interpretation. They are the only ones that know. I'm sure some are genuine. Some acting out of a sense of justice. We need those that will stand and fight for what is right. It is just these hot button topics that I begin to question. Yes, we need something to spur us to action. I understand that. It is just when those acting are not fully informed and are reacting, that things can become fouled.
If and when the issue comes to a vote I will make my choice known. That is how it is supposed to work. It is my feeling that if laws were enforced,as written, we wouldn't have near the problems we do. There are far too many instances of the laws being circumvented or ignored altogether. Laws can not prevent the lawless from doing bad things. We may change the method they use to do harm, but we can not stop it from happening. It seems an awful lot of people have forgotten a basic lesson, life isn't always fair. You cannot control the actions of others.
In my experience, those that are sincere about a topic usually speak softly and intelligently. They state their opinions and offer suggestions. These are the activists that cause positive changes. Those that bluster, cajole or impose their will on others are doomed to repeat that process. A review of history will bear this out.

You have expressed this opinion on more than one occassion. Seems reasonable as far as it goes; unfortunately it doesn't go far enough in reality. Certainly, circumvention is afoot in the US of A; just look at how many bankers are in jail for destroying our economy; just look at how the politicians ignore every bit of our Constitution which is the supreme law of our land. Truly, laws don't prevent lawlessness great or small; businessmen well dressed and versed in legalisms or ragtag terrorists with bizarre motives will not be detered from acting on their nefarious criminal ways and means. Maybe you need to go one step further and examine the reason for the laws; its a bit more complex than just passing laws to be enforced in hopes of correcting a problem. There might not be a need for laws if the underlying reasons for the crimes are scrutinized at length. The problems we face in America are due to lack of critical analysis and independent thought; foundations of the country from the Revolution. Any jackleg group can pass laws and not enforce them or ignore them but it takes a national community to look the problems in the face; find the sources of the disruption and end the problem at its source; not an easy task to address financial sheninagans or violent acts. Laws are an admission that the people have not found the solutions themselves and have given up and are waiting for help from above; truly a desperate disappointing solution. If you have to have laws to address the basics of life and property you have a defeated population that will be at the mercy of both the law givers and the lawless.
