Independence is only achieved with a common goal. That is one of the subtilties lost on a lot of folks. All these people crying about the ability to just do their own thing. All this talk of inclusion is really just a justification for driving wedges in every crack of human nature. Doing the right thing, taking the correct course of action, requires discipline and commitment. That is the path to true independence, independence as a nation of people. We have to act as a cohesive unit, with a common goal in mind. And I have to question, what is the common goal of today? What are we striving to do, to create? Is it any different than yesterdays?
There are two paths. There is political ideology and there is spirituality. All the paths branch off from those two. The destination however is the same, an independent society united in that common goal. An independent society that provides individual security. The best of everything. The political path provides for the here and now whereas the spiritual one promises the future. You could say the difference between being selfish and being altruistic. The more we remain on the political path the farther we move from the spiritual path. The political path relies on power and the religious one on faith.
But back to the question, what are we trying to create here? What is the goal of America, indeed the common goal of mankind? Is it to have an entire planet of people all pursuing one goal? I ask, what is that goal? Is it to explore space, to travel interstellar, bring humanity to other planets? Or is the goal for all of us to simply live together in peace and harmony. To inhabit the planet, to live with the planet and do what? Is it enough to pass our beliefs, our traditions, and our thoughts to future generations without end?
To live forever. Is that the ultimate goal? Is that life controlled by a force greater than our own? That is the spiritual question. We know that our bodies will not last all that long, they will simply wear out. Then we are concerned with the soul, the energy that gives us emotion. That is the life we all question. Some have decided that life will simply vanish, end when the body stops functioning. For others the belief is just the opposite, that energy will continue on forever. Then it becomes a matter of placement. Just where does it go?
I have no more answers to these questions than anyone else. Yes, I have my thoughts, my ideas and my beliefs. I have decided when it comes right down to it the truth is simply what you believe. Others may present empirical evidence to contradict your belief but, if you really believe it, it doesn't change a thing. I have also determined the hardest person to convince is yourself. That's if you are honest with yourself that is. If your belief depends upon others believing the same thing, you don't really believe it. Guess you could say it is an independent belief. It's wonderful when others share that independence with you. A commonality of belief. Maybe that is the goal, man's ultimate achievement.
Happy Easter to those that celebrate.
