Another year begins. The last year for our current president. It's time for a change. I'm anxious for that to take place. I just hope it can take place before a major problem happens. The pressure is building in this country. It is the same pressure that leads to revolution. We are being divided and the wedge is being driven in deeper and deeper. Something is going to have to give. I'm no Chicken Little but I can sense this happening. I'm not saying it can't be reversed but something does need to change. Surrender is not a change ! Well, okay it is a change but not one I relish. It is also not one I will just accept as inevitable. There are moments when a stand needs to be taken. This is one of those times.
My view of history is quite short sighted. I'm only 62. I've only really just begun to appreciate history in the last ten years or so. Personal experience I can only talk about the last fifty years or so. That amount of time is pretty insignificant in the big picture. We have been a country for two hundred and thirty nine years. Founded as a representative republic we have moved more toward a democracy. The shift has occurred ever so slightly that it is taught in our school system. Ask the average American and they will tell you we live in a democracy. That is just not the case and plenty of so called " scholars " will argue the point with you. The distinction is a fine one, I'll grant you that, but there is a distinct difference. It is not a simple majority rules ! That is a pure democracy where 51 beats 49. In our republic two-thirds majority is required in most instances. Quite the difference wouldn't you agree ?
It is troubling to have a lame duck president in times like these. We need strong leadership now more than ever. Anyone that knows me knows where my political affiliations lie. In truth I would vote for any candidate that I felt was the best for the job. I do listen and pay attention to what is happening. Both major parties are in trouble at this time. There is a shift taking place there as well. It isn't the first time. The parties platforms have almost completely shifted from a hundred years ago. Politics is tied to economics. Anyone that reads history will see that. That has always been the case and will always be the case ! Make no mistake about that and suffer no delusion otherwise. Remember it was the Democrats that supported the institution of slavery. Lincoln, the first Republican opposed. Why ? It was a matter of economics, that's why. Pure and simple. Now the Democrats scream about equality and human rights. the Republicans talk about taking a stand. The republicans hint at a return to the days of old, for God and country, apple pie and America ! The Dems say everyone is equal and should have an equal share in everything, the redistribution of wealth. The Republicans say, you get what you earn, on a level playing field. In the end what is the argument about ? Who gets what. It is the same struggle. The centralization of power. The federal government controlling the state governments controlling counties controlling towns and villages ! Ultimately controlling you ! That is what the struggle is about.
Independence. that is what a real American wants. Independence is achievable in America. That independence is being strangled out of us. The weight of the federal government is being brought to bear upon the common citizen. But, We The People, have the power in our representative republic. We just need to exercise that power. This year is an election year and opportunity presents itself once again. I believe this will be a landmark election. The choosing of a president requires much discussion. It is not a decision to be taken lightly.
Independence cannot be purchased. Independence must be won and once obtained defended. Do not trade your Independence for baubles ! The decision is yours to make.
