in premise and in practice

Control of information and control of revenue. That is what we are seeing, although many seem to be blind to that reality. I'll begin with the control of information, what the left has taken to calling, misinformation. The obvious example is the attack on Facebook. Now I'm no big supporter of Zuckerberg and  his whole media empire but I am a supporter of the first amendment. This whole thing about Facebook is allowing posts that incite hate or spread misinformation is an attack on that first amendment. No where in the Constitution does it say the government gets to decide what is information and what is misinformation! That is left up to you, the citizen, to decide. It's the reason an establishment of religion is prohibited. By doing so you are free to decide whether that is information or misinformation, both in its' premise and its' practice. If the government can control what information is allowed on social media platforms simply because some people choose to believe it shouldn't the government then control what can be written in books, broadcast on television, and taught in schools? Explain how that is any different. Now that being said I will repeat what I have said all along, even after recently being restricted from posting on Facebook, the platform has the right to restrict what is posted. It's their ball, their game. You can choose to pay by the rules, or choose to go home.
Control of revenue. Well now we could use the current attack on Facebook in that scenario as well. The Facebook whistleblower has stated that Facebook put profit before safety. The algorithm being used identifies those posts that generate the most revenue. In short, the focus is on making a profit. I admit I have never taken any courses in business, I do hold hold that treasured MBA, but the purpose of a business is to make money. Figured that out all by myself with my first lemonade stand. I would argue the evening news does the same thing. Look at the stories and reporting and tell me that isn't the truth. Attracting the viewers is the name of the game. Sensational headlines and attractive people reporting. How many fat, ugly, people have you seen as anchor people? Look, I'm just sayin'. If the government can censor all of that, they can then censor profits as well. How much advertising is misinformation? All depends on who is deciding on that isn't it?
The current administration wants to implement more banking restrictions. It's an attempt to ratchet up the power of the IRS. The Nazi party built its' military by deficit spending, expecting to recoup all of that through war plunder. They began by seizing the assets of the Jewish folks in the country. Today the plan is similar, deficit spending. The reason is being touted as being "for the people" health care, infrastructure, and education being the big selling points. This deficit is expected to be satisfied by taking money from the wealthy! Yup, that's the plan, plain as day if you just take a good look around. It's warfare alright, class warfare. The rich are the enemy and must be stopped. Imagine running a business to be profitable? Any revenue generated should go to the government that will redistribute that wealth for the benefit of all. Hmm, isn't that socialism? But I'm not supposed to see that or realize what is going on. That is all just misinformation.
The whole deal is really like Margaret Thatcher pointed out, "you run out of other peoples money." When that happens you are left with no choice but to fold up your tent and leave. The government collapses because there is no incentive for the people to succeed. In short, they become dependent upon the government and become a stagnant population. Mismanagement and corruption are contributing factors certainly, but it is that lack of incentive that causes the inevitable demise. At some point there will be those that are willing to "take a chance" and strike out on their own. They are willing to surrender that security of government for the possibility of bettering their themselves, their lives and the lives of their children. Yes, they yearn for freedom. They know it isn't free, they know it isn't easy, they know it isn't granted. It has to be earned. They also know once obtained it must be defended. Freedom is an individual thing, not a government thing. "Freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it. " (Pericles) Freud had this to say, "Most people do not want really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility and most people are frightened by responsibility." I have to say I agree with Freud on that. You don't have to be a doctor to see that today. Many people just want to place the blame elsewhere, call themselves "woke" and shrug responsibility for everything. Freud is right, they are afraid.
