It's my feeling many have gone beyond political correctness and entered the realm of patronizing. It's the only way I can think of to describe the attitude and statements I am hearing from the left these days. Now I understand the whole idea behind the political correctness thing. That in itself is a form of deceit, I know what to say, so I'll say that. It is done to gain favor, popularity or whatever. Most times it is just a concession. Thing is when going to the concession stand you are usually buying something! You are buying something to satisfy your own desires.
We all go to the concession stand out of necessity. No man is an island unto himself. It wasn't a new idea when John Donne wrote it. Man has always been interconnected with other men for survival. No one can be completely insulated from the world. The only difference being how much one is willing to concede, you do have to give something up. Yes there is a price to be paid. Now political correctness is often the currency we employ. More so today than at any other time I am aware of. Fact is if you are not politically correct you will be labeled as one of these; censurable, reprehensible, objectionable, obnoxious and possibly offensive! It's true, those are some of the antonyms for political correctness. No one wants to be labeled in that way. For that reason it becomes a choice, doesn't it? How much are you willing to concede?
But now many have entered the realm of just patronizing anyone and everyone that would disagree with them. Not only are they being politically correct, they are saying how much they love being so. Generally when we hear that term, patronize, we associate it with being talked down to, a bad thing. Fact is synonyms for patronize include, promote, support, back, sponsor, foster, encourage and help, And that is exactly what many of these folks on the left are doing. Not only are they going to the concession stand, they are emptying their moral and ethical wallets! They are conceding everything for what? Acceptance and popularity. Oh and the occasional crumbs those in power would offer, you know, the " free " stuff. Rationalizing these concessions to ease their own conscience, they insist you should do the same. Conditional morality, situational ethics, and self centered thinking.
The only thing past patronizing is a complete surrender. Then the choice is removed completely. You go to the concession stand and get what you get. This is whatever is being handed out that day. Yes, that's what happens. It's called socialism. Everyone gets the same and it ain't much. True the ones that barely had a thing are now getting a bit more, it's true the ones that had it all no longer have it all, it's been redistributed. Those in a position of power haven't conceded a thing, they are not affected, they own the concession stand. But you and I no longer get to choose, just stand in line and take what you are given. That's how it works. That's what you fought so hard to get, it's what you conceded. With all the political correctness and eventual surrender you gave up. But you were popular, you were progressive! You made all the concessions, in fact, you sold the farm! Now you are nothing more than a sharecropper on that farm. Government will decide what you get, how much you get and when you get it.
