I hear where Pelosi and others are calling a border wall immoral. I've heard where they have declared the government has a moral obligation to take care of illegals. They are just refugees after all. Whereas I understand the sentiment, very loving, very compassionate, I question whether government itself is a moral thing. Is the government moral? No, the representatives forming that government should be moral people. " John Adams said, " Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is totally inadequate to the government of any other. " The very first amendment concerns the separation of church and state. The separation between morality and government! For if it isn't our religious beliefs that define our morals, what does? I know there are atheists, humanists and others that declare they have no belief in a divine creator, I'm not saying they don't have morals, they certainly can, and do. Those moral values, the ones they agree with, are delineated in at least one religion or another regardless of whether you believe in that particular practice of not. Deists believe in the divine, just that that divinity won't intercede in the affairs of man. In my way of thinking they believe, Mom can't see me now so I can do whatever I want. But, this discussion about morality and government isn't about any of that. I am just saying that government should be a secular thing. Government must be pragmatic! Government is business, that's why we say the business of government. That business is concerned with what? The governance of the population? No, that isn't what the government is for, the government is there to provide common services, infrastructure and protection for the people.
John Adams in saying our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people, explained that principle quite clearly. The constitution is what? The constitution defines the guiding principles of our republic. A republic, meaning a government of the people, by the people and for the people. The constitution does not delineate morality or what religion is. That is the reason Adams pointed out it is only adequate for a moral and religious people. Because " we the people " are the government. And now you have Pelosi and others saying a wall is immoral! So what are they really saying? Protecting the people is immoral. The same people believe it is moral and a right to kill the unborn. And on what do they base their decisions? They say the constitution, The constitution does not say a thing about morality! There are several appeals and references to God, the divine and providence in our founding documents, placed in there by moral and religious people, John Adams among them. Remember many of the same people that composed that Constitution had previously made a declaration. In that declaration there is a simple statement." that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. " Notice in that declaration it specifically says, derived from the consent of the governed! It doesn't say power is derived from any document. The documents are in place to support the people, to protect the people's rights to govern, not to ensure governments right to rule!
From what authority are we the people to govern? Our moral and religious belief is that authority. Each one individual, each one unique. Isn't that exactly what Adams was saying? Only for a moral and religious people. It can't be disputed that America was founded by people that practiced the Judeo- Christian tradition of morality. Yes, there were Muslims here at that time also but let us not forget that even Islam began based on Judeo-Christian beliefs. It was only changed after Mohamed couldn't attract followers preaching that doctrine, so he went to a cave and came out saying God told him what you hear now. And that's the reason the founding fathers, Jefferson, Monroe and others weren't too fond of what they called Musselmen. The barbary pirates were those fellows for the most part. But, I'm wandering off a bit. In the Judeo-Christian belief we are taught to care for each other. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I agree that we should do that, to the best of our abilities. I also believe that charity begins at home. Contrary to what many believe you will not find that exact quote in the Bible. Really it is an idiom of the world. The premise being, we should deal with the needs of those closest to us first, family, then friends, the community at large, and eventually the entire nation. Let's not forget that Justice begins next door! That is the belief of a moral and religious people. Well, alright at least the belief of this moral and religious person, one of, we the people. So when I hear Pelosi and the others saying a wall is immoral I have to question their understanding. To me, it is immoral to ignore the needs, wants and desires of your people in favor of others. To allow your house to be invaded, occupied and indeed claimed as their own by your neighbor? Would Pelosi or any of the others allow that if it where their personal home? Can I just force my way into their homes, eat their food and drink, and take up residence? All because I'm not happy where I currently live? Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Yup, because it is, yet Nancy and the gang are advocating for just that! A wall immoral? I'd say it was immoral not to secure that border. I'm not saying the door to America is closed and locked forever. I'm saying you have to knock on the door and request permission to enter, just as you would at my door. If you barge into my house, uninvited, you are a intruder! You will be dealt with accordingly. Should be the same for a nation. Government morality? If the government operated on morality shouldn't it be, turn the other check? I can just do whatever I want, whenever, however, with whoever, for any reason whatsoever! For that very reason Government has to be a secular thing, hopefully administrated by a moral and religious peoples. I have to say, at least from my view, there are a lot of Democrats, liberals and others that are sorely lacking in that regard.
