triggers

I'm going to venture into a topic that some may not like as it has become quite the popular view for what are obvious reasons to me. It has become another crutch, another excuse, another method to elicit sympathy. It's called PTSD. Yes, post-traumatic stress disorder. At various times in history it was called being shell shocked or suffering from battle fatigue. That was the sort of experiences that caused those mental issues. Certainly, very traumatic for anyone to endure. But today there are those saying they have PTSD because their latte has too much foam! They are really suffering what was called, being upset that you didn't get your way. And so, that is why I'm calling this diagnosis into question. It's my feeling that is being used to excuse all manner of behaviors. It is also a great tool for unscrupulous attorneys to file lawsuits.
I decided to write a bit about this after listening to the morning news. In recent years the news has become a great source for topics once only found in the National Enquirer. The bulk of the news is being filled with sensational fodder for the masses. I suppose when the news is on for two hours you have to find something to talk about. I don't care what network you are listening to, you will hear that nonsense. This morning they were talking about a school policy that allows the children to use whatever restroom they want. Well, that's if they say they identify as that gender. First off, I think that is just ridiculous in the first place. You can pretend to be whatever you like but that doesn't mean everyone else has to go along with that. Use the restroom that corresponds to your gender at birth. That is the gender you were assigned, and you don't get to change that. But what caught my attention was the mom on the news saying a transgender child in the restroom could trigger PTSD in her child!
I just take issue with this notion that anything that upsets me can cause ptsd.  The experts say I can experience the effects as soon as one month after a traumatic event or even years later. And anything can cause it from a childhood incident I don't even remember to someone wearing a tee shirt I don't like. So, my question is this, since when is every emotional reaction, you have ever had, now a diagnosable disease? It all just seems like a convenient excuse, an explanation for immaturity. That's what it appears to have developed into. Yes, those engaged in warfare and witnessing those horrors may very well indeed be adversely affected. Yes, those subjected to prolonged trauma may develop issues. Getting the wrong order at Mickie D's doesn't qualify!  Seeing a girl in the boy's room or a boy in the girl's room doesn't qualify. Because Walmart installed self-checkout counters you don't get ptsd from that.
The Mayo clinic says this: "PTSD symptoms are generally grouped into four types: intrusive memories, avoidance, negative changes in thinking and mood, and changes in physical and emotional reactions. Symptoms can vary over time or vary from person to person." Well, that pretty much describes anyone that is alive and has been around other people. Intrusive memories? We are being told to take Prevergen to improve our memory. Guess some memories aren't intrusive, like some neighbors can be. Those are the ones we try to avoid. They can make you have negative feelings, put you in a bad mood, and make me change my physical and emotional reaction. I want to just punch you in the face. And that is ptsd. That's what is being taught these days.
Who is teaching that? The ones that provide the "cure" is the answer. You need therapy sessions, counseling and possibly medications. All of that will depend upon your insurance plan or ability to pay. If you can't afford long term counseling or therapy session you will get a prescription. Just take this Zoloft and nothing will upset you. Yeah, you might get addicted that won't be your problem, that is the problem of the manufacturer or prescriber. Sometimes the cure will kill you! There is a big push on  mental health these days. Something that can't be seen, can't be imaged or disputed. You just have it whenever a mental health professional says you do. You can't argue with that. Even the court system will acknowledge that. The only thing in question is which professional will the court believe? This person is suffering from ptsd. This person was just mad, and got physical because he didn't get what he wanted. Did it have anything to do with his twin brother stealing his binky when they were six months old? Could be, could be ptsd. Takes years sometimes and we have to watch for those triggers.
