Seeking Truth

The discernment of truth ought be the driving factor in our lives. Truth inspires us. Only by seeking the truth will true happiness be revealed.
That thought came to me in a conversation. There are times when snippets of logic and truth appear. A brief moment of lucid thought. I have taken to keeping a notepad beside my computer to write these down. I read somewhere that some writers carry a small notebook with them at all times. I can see where that could prove useful. Anyway, as I was " talking " the idea of truth came to mind. Each of us hold our own truths. We can be influenced to believe or reject certain truths. These are the truths that can not be proven or disproved. These truths, just are. It is the discernment of these truths that should given priority in our lives.
It is true that our truths may change over time. What was truth when I was twenty is not necessarily true today. That is because I have learned, matured and become more discriminating in my thoughts and actions. That is the function of living, is it not? I believe we should collect information, insight and wisdom to share with others. Alone, one develops tunnel vision and can not see the truth. What value is knowledge if it is not shared ? Of what value is knowledge, if not examined ?
Of all the creatures on the earth man is the only one that seeks the truth. Sure there are animals that are " smart. " I am not saying man is the only intelligent creature, but rather that man contemplates the universe. All animals focus on survival. I do not believe any animal, excepting man, has that ability. That ability to question what is the truth. Man has questioned, since the beginning, his purpose in life. Most of us believe there has to be something more. Is that vanity ?  What is the truth of it ? The discernment of truth ought be a driving factor in our lives. In other words, establish your truths but always seek more. How many layers must you go through ? How deep is the universe ? The search for the truth is endless.
