it begins anew

The nuptials are complete, the testimonials given, the dances have all been danced and the roller coaster ride of emotions over. It was a beautiful ceremony conducted in a beautiful venue. Memories created that will last a lifetime. The couple are off to their magical honeymoon. Grandma and Grandpa made it back home safe and sound. Tired, physically and emotionally tired. But it's the tired of the contented. It's almost as though we finished a major accomplishment, that kind of tired. The grandson has been transformed. He's a married man now, with a wife! Yes, it takes an adjustment. He's still the little boy we know, still Mark, but now he's different. He has a wife. Seems strange to say that my grandson has a wife. I guess it's a release. That's the only way I can view that in real time. He's flown the nest! Sure, he has been taking test flights for the last four years, off to college, co-habituating with his girlfriend and being all independent, but now, now it's official, he's on his own. Nothing more we can do. We've done it all. The rest is up to him.
Marks aunt officiated the ceremony. She isn't clergy but licensed to perform marriages. She was there when Mark proposed to Bailey in front of the Disney store in Times Square, New York. It was during covid and so she hid behind a mask and was able to secretly record that proposal. It did seem only fitting and right that Jenny perform the ceremony. They each composed their vows and read them aloud to each other. Touching indeed and both did a fine piece of writing. It is easier to write what you believe, and it was evident, the love they share for one another. Rings exchanged, promises made, and a kiss.  Two lives forever intermingled.
