A new year

Asa sort of Christmas gift to myself I bought a new desk. The last one I had was a corner style and although it still served me well I figure, you only live once, go ahead and treat yourself. So to Overstock I went and ordered a new one. It's a Kathy Ireland credenza! I'm not sure who Kathy Ireland is but I liked the sound of a credenza. Didn't Dr. Seuss mention something about a credenza? Anyway it arrived on schedule and yes, some assembly is required. I plan on starting that in the next few days. My first task was disassembling that corner desk. I did accomplish that much yesterday before the football game. Then I removed all the pictures from the walls behind the desk. Wife says the room needs painting now, so I got the fill out and did the nail holes. A light sanding and the wall will be ready for a fresh coat of paint. And that is how projects snowball my friends. That desk is where my computer was and I had to take all that apart apart as well. So this morning I am writing this blog in the corner of my bedroom where I keep my backup computer. Seems a little strange to be sitting here while the wife is in the living room. Maybe I'll message her about my coffee. LOl I've seen the kids message one another when sitting on the same couch! Yes, Dr. Seuss did mention a moss covered three handled family credenza now that I give it some thought. I don't think my Kathy Ireland one is any of those things though, I hope not.
As a result of this my thoughts are on painting and assembling the desk. The reviews I read about that before purchasing where wide ranging. Some folks said, it was easy and straightforward, others thought it moderately difficult. One person said they hired two professional carpenters and it took them two days! I'm thinking that person got ripped off. I can just hear those carpenters laughing about it. I figure I can handle it. I have put together a number of desks, tv stands, bookcases, beds and the like. I could get a job at Ikea as an assembler. Still I'm certain and am mentally prepared for the frustration that will inevitably accompany this project. I look at it as a positive though. In my younger days I would have been drinking a beer while doing it. I have learned over the years, beer, assembling furniture and frustration don't mix well! Oh, things got put together alright, on occasion modified slightly, but together. Another thing I've noticed over the years are instructions have changed. It's just pictures now. I haven't opened the package yet and I'm wondering if this will be that way. I like the pictograph method when it is properly drawn and the pieces are marked correctly. It does seem a bit simpler. It's something we all laugh about, this writing of instructions, but believe me, it is a very difficult thing to do. One of the training exercises I had to do in the Navy involved just that. I was given a " house " made out of index cards, you know the type blank on one side, lined on the opposite with a red line across the top, or is it the bottom. I was allowed five minutes to study it and I could take notes. Afterwards I had to direct five others to build that " house " exactly as the one I was given. They couldn't see a picture of it or read any of my notes. I had to tell them how to do it. I was supposed to be the foreman on the job. After about ten minutes or so I got fired. I got fired because the people assembling those " houses" were idiots! I started yelling at them in frustration! That lesson taught me how difficult it really is to describe something to others. It is a lesson that has stuck with me over the years. Did it make me more patient? No, people are still idiots.
Well, I'll be busy for a few days getting things back together: literally. The other day I determined to start cleaning out some stuff. This is a great place to start. Kinda kill two birds with one stone so to speak. Guess I shouldn't say that anymore, Peta or somebody is gonna be offended and want to charge me with killing birds. I quit saying birds of a feather flock together some time back and try to be more inclusive these days. For now it's off to the geriatric gym for me, takes work to stay alive. I'll pick up a gallon of paint on the way back home. No odor, interior, semi-gloss white. A new year, some new paint and a new desk. Now all I need is some new ideas. I'll keep you posted, I mean I'll do the posting, but you'll be posted. Does that make sense? Either way, I keep you apprised,
