Understand

Why is the government shut down? Well now, that all depends upon who you are asking. It's either a fight for "everyone" or a fight for American citizens. The big sticking point in these negotiations concerns health care. The big concern really concerns just who should get taxpayer funded healthcare. Are we to provide that to anyone and everyone that crosses our border? Are we do that simply because it is the moral and ethical thing to do? Does our constitution really apply to every human being on the planet? Is that what the founding fathers meant when they composed that document.
There is the issue of documentation. We all have heard the adage no job is complete until the paperwork is done. What to do when there is no paperwork at all? That's what we are dealing with when you have those crossing the border illegally. That is what makes that act, illegal! It isn't a difficult thing to understand. How many instances of having to produce, procure or otherwise provide the proper documentation are you subjected too? It begins with a birth certificate. Remember when Obama eventually produced that document, a document still under question to this day. He did provide both a short and long form version. Was that important?
Since 1986 social security numbers may be issued at birth, a crucial identifier for most government services, programs and entitlements. But social security cards are not considered valid proof of identity. So, does that mean you don't need a social security number to receive benefits? No, it is required. You have to have a ss number to work in this country legally. But how do you get one if you are here illegally? That is a part of this argument shutting down the government. Should those that have entered the country illegally be rewarded for doing so by receiving the same benefits and entitlements as those here legally? Just be issued a social security number? The proof that isn't proof. Well, we can collect taxes if you have that or receive taxpayer funding anyway.
Yes, it is about funding! If you can't work legally in this country does that obligate me to support you? In order to get a ss card these requirements must be met. You must provide at least two documents proving age, identity and US citizenship or current immigration status. But remember, that social security isn't proof of identity. That seems a bit strange doesn't it? Perhaps legislation needs to address that issue. The bottom line is simply this, if your current immigration status is illegal, you get nothing more than basic needs until you are deported back to your home nation. If you failed to even apply for refugee status, that deportation should be immediate. You have to present documentation at the border to the proper authorities!
If you go to the bank to withdraw your own money from your account you have to provide proof of identity to get that money! Yes, documentation is required! You can't receive those funds without that proof. We have heard of REAL ID. It is required here in Maryland but it is not a national database. It is a set of requirements established by the government for issuing drivers licenses and identification cards.
I was required to produce a myriad of documents to renew my drivers license. Producing my identification card issued by the United States department of defense, showing my retired status as a veteran was not sufficient for that. No, I still needed to produce a birth certificate, social security card and proof of Maryland residency. I couldn't just cross the border into Maryland and receive that real ID, documentation was required. I needed to prove my citizenship status! Yeah, there was no exceptions for me. Meanwhile, in another room a translator was reading the questions to someone to take the exam for their drivers license.
The government is shut down why? Because there are those in congress insisting that illegal aliens should receive all the same benefits as those that are here legally. The cost of that is staggering. It is also incentivizing those that would cross the border illegally. If breaking the law gets me the same reward as following the law why should I be bothered with that. Yes, it does cost you to legally emigrate to another country. The host nation imposes visa and residency fees. There is a process to apply for refuge status as well. Included in that process is the requirement for documentation. You must file form I-589. You even have a year to do so! Yes, paperwork is required, not just a sob story. When the paperwork is complete, the job is done. That is when you get paid! Really not a difficult concept to master. Lo entiendes ?

Form I-589 you have un ano to file this or it's adios amigo.
