With the government shut down I'm hearing that airline flights are being delayed or canceled. It's because the air traffic controllers aren't being paid but are still required to work. I guess they aren't working as consciously as they do when receiving their pay. I can understand that, I most likely would feel the same way. It's a very stressful job, we all know that. That's why the average earnings for them is 150,000 a year. Not bad. I also suspect many of them can afford to call in sick or whatever. I haven't heard that it is affecting any commercial traffic however, like UPS or whatever. It is mostly passenger planes. The big concern is it may ruin some holiday plans.
Well the thing is this, I'm not being effected in any way by that. I haven't taken a flight anywhere in the thirty years or more. I much prefer to drive. Of course, I'm seldom more than twenty five miles from home. I'm just not much of a traveler. Traveled enough during my navy career to last me the rest of my life. So I am lacking empathy for those I hear complaining about their flights possibly being delayed. Some complaining this is impacting their quality of life and it is causing them distress. Yeah ok, that's real stress. I am amazed at the number of people that do fly routinely. On one hand I hear about how terrible the economy is, wages are way too low, the cost of living is way too high and on the other my flight is being delayed! My feeling is, if you can afford to fly around the country you must not be doing too bad. That isn't cheap!
I heard that some of these air traffic controllers have taken another job to make ends meet and that is why they can't come to work. Given their average salary I'd say they haven't been very responsible with their budgets. Bringing home a paycheck around three thousand a week you would think they would have some cushion. But they say they need to work to feed their families. They're broke? I don't think so. Don't they all work for a union? Why isn't the union providing for them? They pay dues don't they? Why haven't I heard anything about that? I thought the UNION was for the workers. Yeah the union is a socialist program and you can see how that works plainly enough. The leadership is getting their pay, you can bet on that, the workers, well, not so much.
The government is shut down because our legislators just can't agree on a course of action. The government could be reopened, at least temporarily, but the democrats refuse to do that. Their stance is we will only negotiate if we are guaranteed to get what we want. The republicans are saying, we will not give in to those demands. The democratic leadership has publicly stated, this is our only leverage and we fully intend to use it! They say the republicans have the majority. That's true. What those same democrats refuse to understand is that this isn't a simple democracy where the majority wins, it's a constitutional republic. The senate has its' 60 votes but more than 60 is required and has to come from the democrats. Oh, they do understand that, they are counting on you not understanding that. You're being played.
They stand a good chance of that being the case. The democratic voter base is what? Generally speaking it those that are dependent upon the government. That's the big promise of the democratic party. You can pretty much do whatever you like and the government will give you free stuff. The democratic approach is all about control. When government controls the means of production, they control you. They really are counting on you either just being stupid or dependent, preferably both. That's why they are importing voters today! Not a citizen, can't read or speak English, no job, plenty of kids, that's excellent. Just vote for the picture of the donkey! El burro or Burra. Now your money is being cut off and you are being sent right back where you came from. You are just a pawn in the game. Drug lords and democrats. The goal is the same, complete control. Both are willing to see you die in order to achieve their goal. You are their leverage!
