Time really is relative. Einstein was onto something with that theory. Scientists today say the theory has been proven and Einstein was correct about all of that. Einstein was basically saying time is relative depending upon the observers frame of reference. I'm not making any claims to actually understanding all of that but agree that time is indeed relative to your frame of reference. Yesterday I ran into an acquaintance of mine, someone I have known for years but wouldn't call a friend. You know people like that, you know their name and a bit about their family. I know this lady and asked her about her girls, how they are doing. She told me her oldest is 22 now and the younger one a sophomore in college. That seems strange, last time I remember seeing them they were just little kids! Then I remembered they are the same age as my grandchildren. I'm not surprised that my grandchildren are 24 and 22. I guess that is because we are related! It's relativity.
We all experience that in different ways. The older we get the more relative time gets. For me, a little while ago may be measured in months or years. The high school I graduated from in 1971 was a new building, I was in the first class to graduate from that facility. I read a while back that it needs to be replaced, it's too old and outdated. I thought, what the heck are they talking about, it's the new school. Then thinking about it some more that was fifty four years ago. If it was a car it would be a 1971 and a '71 isn't an old car. Well, except if I do the math Ford produced his first car fifty years before I was born. Yeah, that was in 1903 and by 1953 they were certainly considered antique automobiles. Another example of relativity.
It seems to me the more separated we are from the past the more relative time becomes. It has to be because of the frame of reference. I see old classmates in my mind as they appeared in 1971. I have seen some on social media since then and they don't look the way I remember. Strangely I look in the mirror and the same face is there, I just have to look a little harder than I used to. I compare that face to time and I can relate. I do have to remind myself that it is the 21st century although 25% of it has almost passed. That's right, I was born mid twentieth century, saw the last half of that and now I'm looking back on 25% of the new century. Time is relative to the reference point.
All things must pass. It's a common enough quote and comes from a number of sources. We will all leave this world behind is what that says to me. A reminder of our mortality. For many religious beliefs are used to fill that void we call death. No one knows for certain what happens. I wonder if our consciousness remains. Or as I ask, will I know that I'm dead? And if I do will I remember everything from this life? Is death going back in time or a step forward? I suspect it will be relative to our frame of reference. There is a meme that appears on Facebook that I smile about every time I read it, " I always knew I would get old, I just didn't know it would happen so fast." I can see it happening to those around me clearly enough, poor folks, but relatively speaking I don't appear to be aging all that much. I'm going to attribute that to taking naps, you don't age while napping is my guess. You can die in your sleep, but not while taking a nap, somebody is always going to wake you up.
